Training

The Animal Den is proud to offer in house training for all our canine friends who may need a little polishing around the edges. Our training classes will help your pet be all that he can be.

Our training classes will help your pet show off his good behavior and make you proud when you take him out. We focus on socialization, walking on leash without pulling, heeling while on leash, sit, stay until released, stand for examination (your vet or groomer will love you for this!) and the lay down commands. The goal for our classes will be for your pet to follow your directions while facing multiple distractions such as toys, balls, and different sounds while staying on command. Our ultimate goal is for your pet to follow command with you out of sight.

Through positive reinforcement, we use repetition with praise to achieve desired behaviors; we believe that a dog's only wish is to please. As the training progresses, each week we review the previous week's lessons and add new challenges for both the pet and the owner. With open discussion on training methods, training collars and leashes, problem areas specific to you and your pet's needs can be adequately addressed. The Animal Den offers a very personalized, focused class that offers everyone plenty of one-on-one time as well as group participation.

Overview

Our bright, brand new, state-of-the-art Training Center features an environment, which is not only climate-controlled with 99.9% purified air, but also has specialty flooring that is soft on paws, non-slippery when wet, and germ-free.

Meet the Instructor

Our pet instructor is Tim Littig.

Tim has a diverse array of experience with both domestic and exotic animals and holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Illinois in Ethology (The study of animal behavior).

For the past nine years, Tim has conducted classroom and private training in obedience and home problem solving for all breeds of dogs through the use of many training techniques. Some of the animals he has worked with includes domestic livestock such as goats, pigs, mules, cows, llamas, chickens, and exotic animals such as giraffes, porcupines, African wild dogs, birds of prey, hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, and elephants. Tim's own dog is a 4 year old Rottweiler, Bruni, who has her Canine Good Citizen award.

Good Dog 101

Basic obedience and home problem-solving for all breeds. Topics include: an orientation to dog training and solving such home problems as chewing digging, biting, house breaking, crate training, unwanted jumping, and barking.

Additional topics covered will involve on lead heeling, socialization, sit, lay down, stand for exam, stay, recalls, and much more. We use a wide variety of situations to help you and your dog in every day, real world conditions. Every dog and owner can benefit from this class.

Good Dog 102

Advanced obedience for all breeds. We reaffirm all behaviors learned in 101. We increase the challenges for the dogs and the owners. We strive to work primarily off lead, and to finish and polish the dog for the real world. We continue socialization and home problem solving. We work on sits and downs while the handlers are out of view! This class is designed to build teamwork and to be a rewarding experience for dogs and owners.

Private Lessons

Individualized training for the easily distracted dog or the owner whose time demands require a more flexible schedule. Topics included are: sit, down, come, stay walking nicely on a loose leash, place command, and working on specific behavior issues. This is convenient hands-on instructional training for you and your pet. Pricing available upon request.
